College Counselor Gay Melnick

Gay Melnick brings extensive professional and personal experience to the college admissions work she does with her students.

For the past 30 years, Gay has worked as a teacher, counselor, and school principal in Maryland. She was the testing coordinator at a large, urban high school in Silver Spring, MD for several years, handling SAT/ACT/AP exams and all aspects of college admissions.

Gay was actively involved in both of her sons’ college admissions processes. One graduated from Chapman University, and one from University of Maryland – College Park.

Gay thrives when working with her students. She believes in others more than they sometimes believe in themselves, seeing students’ potential rather than their limitations. She believes there is a college for every single student and through lots of meaningful conversations she will help your son or daughter find their ideal school.

Relationships come first for Gay. She prioritizes staying in touch with her former students, recently officiating the wedding for one of her former high school students, now a pharmacist.

Gay has a master’s degree in school counseling from Johns Hopkins University and is currently an adjunct faculty member in the School of Education at American University. She’s a member of the Potomac & Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC). When she’s not working as a college counselor, Gay loves to travel (most recently the Amalfi Coast, Italy), exercise, spend time outdoors, and spend time with her family.
