MaggieSez: July Newsletter

What’s New in College Admissions?

Hundreds of college admission deans shared a message about their priority for soon-to-be-applicants.  You may be surprised to learn their top priority.  Read about that here.

Many ACT sites are closed for July, but some are open.  The searchable list of closed sites is here.

Magellan’s counselors are meeting virtually with colleges across the U.S. daily.  Thank you for relying on us to keep you up to date!

College Chat Livestreams – Every Thursday Through July!

Our weekly college admission expert interview series continues this week – on Thursday, 7/2, Evelyn and Diana will talk with admission representatives from UC Santa Barbara and Dickinson College to discuss essays and other written aspects of students’ applications.  Please join us at 5:30 pm pacific time; we livestream on our Facebook page.  We’ll continue every Thursday through the end of July.

We started this weekly series on April 30, and the past interview archive is here.

College Admissions Testing
  • Some colleges are making the decision to not require the SAT or ACT for the Class of 2021, and some for future classes as well.
  • Should your student still take the SAT or ACT?  Will they benefit from a test-optional process or not?
  • It depends.  Call us to discuss.
Host A Virtual “College Info” Seminar For Friends

Are your friends starting to think about (read: get anxious about!) college?  Please get in touch if you are interested in hosting a college admissions information seminar for your parent friends.  We can tailor our presentation for parents of 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th grade students, or a combination.

INDIVIDUALIZED GUIDANCE

Our service is not for everyone, but some parents feel they and their student would benefit from additional hands-on, personalized assistance as they navigate the college admission process.  If this feels like something you’d like to have for your child, please give us a call.
