Magellan’s comprehensive college counseling plan includes 35 hours of personalized guidance throughout the student’s junior and senior years. We also offer a limited-hours “mini-plan” to help your student better organize their application process.
We can also work on an hourly basis with your student.
This summer we will host an Essay Workshop (in July) and a Common Application Boot Camp and UC/CSU Application Workshop (both in August) to help students kick-start their essays. More details to come!

Class of 2016 – you are now “rising seniors” – and in just 60 days, your college application adventure will begin! There’s lots of time this summer to get some of the work done early – being organized means less stress for your entire household in the fall! While the Common Application won’t open until August 1, you can find the essay prompts for the Class of 2016 here.

Class of 2017 – do you have your SAT/ACT testing plan in place? The newly-overhauled SAT will debut next March. Summer is a great time to take a full-length practice SAT and ACT to see which test suits you better. Summer is a also great time for students in all classes to read, prep for the SAT, shadow a professional, get a job or volunteer!
Students’ Summer To-Do List:
Visit a few local colleges, just to get the feel of college campuses (So many to choose from! Occidental, Whittier, LMU, CSUN, Pepperdine, USC, UCLA, Univ. of Redlands, Long Beach State)
Keep track of your volunteer, work or internship hours
Prep for the SAT or ACT! [There are no tests over the summer – after the June 6th SAT and June 13th ACT, the next tests are in September (ACT) and October (SAT).]
Get an estimate of your Expected Family Contribution, just to get a feel for what your financial obligations might be.

Host a College Admissions Seminar for Friends!
As we move through the summer, more parents start to think about (read: get anxious about!) their kids’ college exploration process. Please get in touch if you are interested in hosting a college admissions information seminar at your home. We can tailor our presentation for parents of 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th grade parents, or a combination. Your friends will thank you for the opportunity to learn more about the process.
