On the Road Again!
Summer is a busy time for me in visiting colleges.  I’ll be spending all of next week in Portland, and at the end of July, I’ll be visiting colleges in both North Carolina and New Jersey.  While you do your SAT prep and summer reading, I’m checking out colleges that could be a good match for you!  As always, you can find my reviews of colleges I’ve visited here.

College Search Planning for 10th and 11th Graders:
Juniors, consider taking the SAT this fall if you have completed Algebra II.  That will give you a chance to take it again in the spring if you want, while giving you time to explore colleges as well.  For all students: prepare for the SAT by reading every day! Read a book, read a magazine, read news on the internet – just read! If you come across a word you don’t know, write it down and keep a list. You are more likely to remember the word if you write it down.

If you are interested in structured SAT/ACT test prep courses or in-home tutoring, please call me (877-5-MAGGIE (877-562-4443)) for a referral.

Keep track of all of your volunteer, extra-curricular and work activities.  Work with your church or synagogue youth group, music and/or art lessons and sports should all be on your resume.  Doing this now will save time when you fill out college applications.

Colleges That Change Lives – Annual LA College Fair
Colleges That Change Lives is a group of about 40 colleges, mostly small, private liberal arts schools (with a few exceptions) where students have close interaction with faculty and a hands-on learning opportunity.  These colleges visit L.A. for an annual college fair at the Universal City Hilton.  This year’s fair will be Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1.  More details here.
