Magellan College Counseling is proud to support NAIMUN LX!
This page is especially for NAIMUN LX delegates. Congratulations on your involvement in Model UN!
We have a special offer for you at the bottom of the page.
In the video to the right, Harvard Law student Eliza Davis chats with me about how her high school involvement in Model UN played a part in her college applications, and her college experience at UC Berkeley.
If you’re just beginning to think about your college search process, I hope you’ll consider signing up for our FREE College Admission Clinic! This is a great way to learn more about how college admission has changed since your parents applied.
Additionally, here are a few more resources that may answer some common questions (this is kind of the “greatest hits” of our blog):
Here are some big-picture topics:
- What are Colleges Looking For?
- What does Holistic Admission Mean?
- Test-Optional College Admission
- What’s My GPA for College Admissions?
- What’s a School Profile?
People frequently ask us where and how to start building their college list. We tell them that rankings are not the best place to start. As you will learn in this post and the embedded webinar, rankings don’t tell you if a college is good or right for YOUR CHILD. So if the rankings aren’t the right place to start, what is? Here are 4 posts to help you get started:
- Building your college list (part 1)
- Building your college list (part 2)
- How many colleges should I apply to?
- College Research Pays You Back
You may want to share our three-part series on financial aid and college cost with your parents:
First segment: how college financial aid works
Second segment: how MERIT aid works
Third segment: College ROI
We also strongly recommend some introspection before you start putting actual college names on the list. Think about the KIND OF ENVIRONMENT in which you’ll be happy and successful, instead of starting with college names. Here’s a resource to help with that introspection:
Cappex self-assessment, priorities and College Pie
You’ll find even more on our Resources page (keep checking back as we add things all the time!). We also invite you to “Like” our Facebook page, where we post lots of interesting articles and information, and you can see all of our archived newsletters here.
