Most seniors have completed most (or all!) of their college applications by now, and the long waiting period begins. For many of our clients, the wait is tempered by the fact that they already have college acceptances and scholarship offers in hand! In fact, 41 of our 50 seniors have acceptance letters. And are you sitting down? These 41 students have over$3.7 million in merit scholarship offers at this point. Making a great college list and getting the work done early pays off!!!
Magellan Expands Team; Enhances Professional Qualifications
Last fall, Magellan added veteran college advisor Diana Hanson to our team. Diana is an expert college essay coach and an effective counselor, and we’re happy to collaborate with her! Read the blog post about our growth here, and read about Diana’s qualifications here. Also, Magellan founder Evelyn Jerome-Alexander earned the Certified Educational Planner designation last year; she’s one of only 27 people in California and 16 in SoCal to hold this respected title. More about that – with some thoughts on questions you should ask when you interview an independent educational consultant, in this post.
Parents’ Corner
When Should We Start Working With a College Advisor? Magellan is currently working with students in the Class of 2018 (now juniors), and will sign families with students in the Class of 2019 in April. Our comprehensive plan starts at the very beginning of junior year, but we sign clients in advance of that so we can work with them on summer programs, curriculum decisions and their ACT/SAT testing timeline. We have openings for both the Classes of 2018 and 2019 at this time. You can learn more about our process here.
Upcoming Presentations We have number of free college admissions and financial aid presentations coming up in January and February, all over the Los Angeles area. See this post for details about all of them! And feel free to get in touch if you have questions.
Khan Academy provides free SAT prep! Link your College Board account (everyone who took the PSAT has an account) with Khan Academy.
Quesbook has free ACT prep with daily question sets.
