College Counselor Melanie F. Tasoff

Melanie’s journey to college counseling developed from her own personal experience. Originally from Tucson, AZ, she graduated from UCLA with her Bachelor’s Degree. Later, Melanie returned to UCLA and completed her Certificate in College Counseling, with Honors.

The mother of 3 sons, all with different college needs, Melanie’s initial path of working in business took a turn when she discovered the world of learning challenges, and other special needs. Melanie worked with Jewish Family Service’s special needs programs and then joined Online Jewish Academy (OJA), a small start-up company that used progressive blended learning for high school students, including advanced level students as well as those with alternative learning needs.

Through working with her own sons and others, Melanie became aware of the importance in recognizing the many gifts that people can have. Along with a focus on learning differences and other specialized needs; Melanie guides students who are “twice exceptional” and other students that are looking for the right college fit.

Melanie is an Associate Member of IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association), and a member of WACAC (Western Association for College Admission Counseling) and IDA (International Dyslexia Association). She joined Magellan in 2019, after having worked on her own for several years in the college counseling field.
