Caleb is a uniquely qualified college counselor with more than 20 years of diverse professional experience in business and education. He spent the first part of his career working for various financial companies in Sydney, Australia in marketing and client services. Upon moving back to California in 2000, Caleb earned a teaching credential from Cal State San Marcos and worked as a substitute teacher in North San Diego County school districts while being a stay-at-home dad for his son.
Caleb earned a Master’s of Education in School Counseling from Purdue University. It was during his time as a school counselor, helping students begin to think about and prepare for attending college, that he developed a genuine passion for the process. He completed UCLA’s Certificate in College Counseling with Distinction and founded Apex College Advising in 2016. After meeting Magellan College Counseling founder Evelyn Jerome-Alexander at a college counseling conference, he decided to merge Apex with Magellan to offer his clients more services and expertise and to expand Magellan’s reach to San Diego. Caleb is a passionate sports fan, specifically baseball and the San Francisco Giants. He has completed the “Advising the College-Bound Student-Athlete” certificate and has specific expertise in this area. While he loves every aspect of college counseling, he is particularly passionate about working with high school athletes through their recruitment and college application process.
Caleb strongly believes that the right fit college is far more important than the name of the institution for every student, whether an athlete, thespian, or budding engineer. There are hundreds of great schools out there so spread a wide net! While being admitted to college is exciting, it’s the opportunities students create while they’re there, and the experiences and education that prepare them for their future lives that matter most.
