Portland State University

Portland State University building
Portland State University blends modern architecture with older and historic city buildings.

Located in the heart of NW Portland, at the beginning of the beautiful Park Blocks, Portland State University’s campus is just a short walk from Riverfront activities, culture and entertainment and a multitude of immersive learning and internship opportunities.  Even the weekly farmers’ market is on PSU’s campus!  Adding to this convenience, the MAX (Metropolitan Area Express) Light Rail runs right through campus.

PSU is home to 19,000 undergraduate and 4,000 graduate students. While students are not required to live on campus, housing is guaranteed for all first year students.  The majority of students come from Oregon, but Portland State is a member of the Western Undergraduate Exchange, offering tuition discounts to students in member states.

Portland State University houses eight schools: College of the Arts, Engineering and Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Urban and Public Affairs, School of Business, College of Education, School of Public Health (a special partnership with the Oregon Health and Science University) and School of Social Work. Students enjoy a student to faculty ratio of 18:1. Students from all of the colleges are invited to apply to the University Honors College where they follow an Honors Curriculum and have access to special research opportunities.

PSU boasts a strong general education program which includes the freshman and sophomore inquiries and junior clusters.  You can learn more about these pathways here.  Academic advising is based on selected majors or if undeclared, interests.

Portland State University is a member of the Big Sky Conference, competing in NCAA Division I level volleyball and basketball, and Division II level for its other varsity sports.  From the Greek groups, to intramural and recreation sports and other student organizations and  clubs, there are many ways for students to have fun and be engaged on campus and in the greater Portland community.

Portland State University’s Mission Statement:
