Azusa Pacific University

Azusa Pacific University trolley
Students can take the trolley between Azusa Pacific University’s two campuses.

Only 26 miles from the heart of Los Angeles, you’ll find a small school with a wide variety of academic options and professional offerings that rival those of a larger university.  Azusa Pacific University has grown since its founding 125 years ago, so students will find two campuses within a mile of each other. Students and faculty ride the cute trolley if they don’t want to walk the short distance.

As you will find with most secular institutions, Azusa Pacific University is committed to educating the whole person.  Although students are required to take 6 biblical classes and attend weekly chapel, they are also afforded the opportunity to delve into a wide variety of liberal arts and science classes.

APU is well known for its nursing program and takes in approximately 100 students per year. Students choose from two concentrations: health professions or applied science.  Through clinical opportunities, a student will gain hands-on experience. APU prides itself with state of the art technology including simulators and virtual patients. 90% of students pass the NCLEX exam.  Kinesiology is also a popular major at APU. Students delve into this major through classes as well as hands-on experiences.

Don’t think that this school only focuses on the STEM majors – APU also touts their facilities and coursework in the arts.  It offers a BFA in Acting for the Stage and Screen as well as a BA and minor in Theater Arts.

Students take pride in their campus community and are quick to offer information about the vast number of clubs, study abroad programs, and the 17 Division II athletic teams.

Azusa Pacific takes pride in its 4 cornerstones: Scholarship, Service, Community and Christ.  For students and parents who are looking for a smaller university (approximately 3,000 undergraduates) where you can embrace your Christian values in the greater Southern California area, this might be the perfect place to call home for 4 years.
